Every transshipment involves an extra lift-on and lift-off at the intermediate port. Choose carriers based on hub performance, not just rate. A carrier offering $50 less per TEU through a congested hub costs you more when rollovers and delays eat into your margins and your team’s time. Track carrier reliability at specific transshipment hubs — not just overall on-time performance. A carrier might post 90% schedule reliability globally but a 75% connection rate at a particular hub.

Monitor hub dwell time per carrier. Build this into your carrier scorecards. Ask carriers for their average connection time at each hub they use on your trade lanes.
